Melissa E. Orme, President and Chief Scientist
received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern California’s department of Aerospace Engineering in 1989. In 1993 she was appointed to Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California Irvine, and to Associate and Full Professor in 1996 and 2002 respectively. She is the recepient of the NSF Young Investigator Award, American Association of University Women Judith Resnick Award, a three time recepient of the Zonta International Amelia Earhart Award, and numerous other honors.
Additionally, Dr. Orme served as President and Chief Scientist of Rapid Analysis and Development Company (1993-1997) whose main objective was to develop a new method of Ball Grid Array printing for advanced electronics assembly. Since 2003, Dr. Orme serves as Vice President for Clinical Research of MastoScopia Advanced Medical Imaging, whose primary objective is the research and development of a new 3-D ultrasonic mammography technology using transmission tomography. In 2010, Dr. Orme formed Sonovation, Inc. Imaging & Diagnostics, and provides scientific direction that focuses on the development of ultrasound tomography for medical applications such as breast cancer detection, diagnostics, biopsy and staging. Other areas of research include bone imaging for the detection and diagnostics of osteoporosis and other bone diseases, non-invasive skin cancer biopsy, and diagnosis of neuromuscular injuries.
Roy C. Shin, Chief Engineer
obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1994. From 1995-2004 he served as Chief Engineer of MultiSpec Corporation, and as a Research Scientist (2003 - 2008) at the Alfred E. Mann Institute for Biomedical Engineering, CA, and later a Senior Research Associate (2008 - present) at the University of Southern California's Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Dr. Shin has demonstrated comittment and dedication to the field of biomedical engineering through his numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, and is an important member of the Sonovation team.
